I’ve just recorded the first episode of my brand new podcast called THE OSCAR ALMOST WENT TO, which will examine the movie that probably came the closest to winning Best Picture at the Oscars but ultimately fell short.
Oscar history is littered with amazing, culturally relevant movies that were nominated to Best Picture but lost, from The Graduate to Star Wars to Pulp Fiction to Brokeback Mountain to The Social Network! And many more! Movie fans tend to seek out the Best Picture winners, but this podcast will help highlight those movies that may have come in second but still resonate to this day. Each week I will have a special guest to talk about the film’s merits, why it lost, and whether it actually deserved to defeat the real Best Picture winner.
For my first episode I have Sebastian Gronback with me to talk about Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, a film that won at the Golden Globes, SAG Awards and BAFTA but ultimately lost the Oscar to The Shape of Water. The first episode should be up on Monday. Stay tuned!
