The Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA) and the Broadcast Television Journalists Association (BTJA) announced their nominations for the 24th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards on Monday. The Favourite led with the most film nominations at 14 including Best Picture, Best Director for Yorgos Lanthimos and acting nominations for Olivia Colman, Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz. The Americans, The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story and Escape at Dannemora were the top leaders among TV series at five nominations apiece.
The Critics’ Choice Awards, which will air live Sunday, Jan. 13 on The CW at 7 p.m. ET, pride themselves in being “the most accurate predictor of the Academy Award nominations” and are thus taken seriously among awards prognosticators. Generally speaking, you want to see your film in contention with this group since there are so many more nominations than the Oscars to begin with. There has not been too much correlation on the TV side with the Emmys, considering they are so far removed from the Emmy calendar.
