The Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA) and the Broadcast Television Journalists Association (BTJA) announced their nominations for the 25th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards on Sunday. The Irishman led with the most film nominations at 14 including Best Picture, Best Director for Martin Scorsese and acting nominations for Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, and Joe Pesci. When They See Us was the top leader among TV series at six nominations.
The Critics’ Choice Awards, which will air live Sunday, Jan. 12 on The CW at 7 p.m. ET, pride themselves in being “the most accurate predictor of the Academy Award nominations” and are thus taken seriously among awards prognosticators. Generally speaking, you want to see your film in contention with this group since there are so many more nominations than the Oscars to begin with. There has not been too much correlation on the TV side with the Emmys, considering they are so far removed from the Emmy calendar.
