The 70th Primetime Emmy Awards took place Monday night, with hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che. The three big series prizes were awarded to The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel for Best Comedy Series, Game of Thrones for Best Drama Series and The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story for Best Limited Series.
The night’s biggest winner was Amy Sherman-Palladino, who not only won Best Comedy Series with Mrs. Maisel but also Best Comedy Directing and Comedy Writing. In a night full of spreading the wealth, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel was the only series to truly sweep, winning five of the seven comedy categories.
Atlanta and The Handmaid’s Tale shockingly left empty-handed despite being frontrunners in their respective genres. The snubbing of Handmaid’s is especially jarring, considering how significantly it swept last year.
It was also a year for nominees finally getting their due, with Matthew Rhys (The Americans), Claire Foy (The Crown) and Thandie Newton (Westworld) all winning despite losing in previous years.
Check out the full list of winners in bold below, with the losing nominees directly under.
