The New York Film Critics Circle announced their winners for 2018 on Twitter Thursday morning, and Roma emerged victorious, winning the awards for Best Film, Best Director for Alfonso Cuarón and Best Cinematography. First Reformed took home two prizes, for Best Actor Ethan Hawke and Best Screenplay for Paul Schrader.
As always, remember that the winner of Best Film has not necessarily lined up with Best Picture at the Oscars much lately, with past NYFCC winners including 2012’s Zero Dark Thirty, 2013’s American Hustle, 2014’s Boyhood, 2015’s Carol, 2016’s La La Land, and 2017’s Lady Bird.
