Oscars 2018: Academy Announces Shortlists in 9 Categories

For the first time in its history, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has released nine shortlists for the upcoming Oscars on the same day. Monday, the Academy announced a reduced pool of contenders in nine categories, including: Best Documentary Feature, Best Foreign Language Film, Best Makeup & Hairstyling, Best Original Score, Best Original Song, Best Visual Effects, Best Animated Short Film, Best Documentary – Short Subject, and Best Live Action Short Film.

The amount of contenders varies by category, with seven for Makeup & Hairstyling, nine for Foreign Language Film and Visual Effects, 10 for each of the short categories, and 15 for Documentary Feature, Original Score and Original Song. This is the first time the Academy is releasing shortlists for Original Score and Song, whose nominees have until now been decided from much longer lists. 

Here are the shortlists in all nine Oscar categories for the upcoming 91st Academy Awards.
