The Peabody Awards announced their list of 60 nominees honoring the best in television, radio/podcasts and the web from the year 2017. As selected by the Board of Jurors, these projects exemplify powerful, innovative storytelling, with many centering on an important social message.
“True to tradition, we are proud to present a rich mix of excellence in the craft of storytelling,” said Jeffrey P. Jones, executive director of Peabody. “These stories reflect important social issues and exemplify the power of diverse voices and platforms in media today.”
These 60 nominees will be whittled down to 30 in the coming weeks, and those 30 will be announced as the official Peabody Awards honorees for 2017. This year’s nominees includes Oscar nominated documentaries Abacus: Small Enough to Jail, Heroin(e), Last Men in Aleppo and Strong Island, along with Emmy-winning series The Handmaid’s Tale and Planet Earth II and nominees Better Call Saul, Oklahoma City and One Day at a Time.
Both winners and nominees will be honored at the Peabody Awards on Saturday, May 19 at Cipriani Wall Street in New York. Comedian Hasan Minhaj will serve as host.
