The Writers Guild of America announced their 2017 nominations for film on Thursday, with films like Get Out, Lady Bird and Call Me by Your Name among the selected list. The awards are voted on by working writers in the industry and are considered the main precursor for the Best Original Screenplay and Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar categories.
Nominated films in the Best Original Screenplay and Best Adapted Screenplay category are The Big Sick, Call Me by Your Name, The Disaster Artist, Get Out, I, Tonya, Lady Bird, Logan, Molly’s Game, Mudbound and The Shape of Water. Notable snubs here are The Post and Phantom Thread.
Films deemed ineligible for a nomination included Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Darkest Hour, Victoria & Abdul, Coco, Breathe, Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool and The Killing of a Sacred Deer.
